Client Stories

Many owners of pets with behavioral issues feel isolated and alone.  We have helped resolve problems in dogs, cats, horses and even birds and have restored peace of mind to the families who love them.

Congratulations to Kim, John, and Frisco!

Frisco is an extremely friendly and loving Labrador, but he was fearful and anxious of loud noises, boots, or anything with wheels. He would also bark uncontrollably when people or dogs approached him on a walk.

With Dr. Haug’s guidance he has become better behaved and shows signs of less anxiety while walking.  We are still working on his fear of bicycles, but recently he walked past a group of kids riding bikes without a glance or a whimper.

Way to go! Your hard work is paying off!

Congratulations to Sally and Ozzy!

Ozzy growled, snarled, and bit whenever someone tried to groom him or handle his body, especially his collar.

With a carefully planned program involving behavior modification and medication, Sally is now able to groom Ozzy and handle his body in a much safer manner. She instilled hours of training in Ozzy to teach him that grooming is an enjoyable process. Ozzy is especially handsome now that all of his hair can be brushed and trimmed.   Awesome job with him!

Congratulations to Dorothy, Pepper and Morgan!

Pepper and Morgan had lived peacefully together for years, but one day, the dogs got into a “knock-down, drag-out fight” with each other. The fight seemed to drag on forever because Dorothy could not separate the dogs. Dorothy loves both of her dogs dearly and was concerned about the dogs potentially fighting again, with a deadlier outcome. Pepper is also a very anxious and nervous dog. Morgan is aggressive to other dogs, especially while on leash. Both dogs showed aggression when someone (or a dog) approached them while they had something delicious (i.e. bone).

Dorothy worked on teaching both of the dogs calmer behavior and separated them in problematic situations (i.e. giving out bones). Since working with Dr. Haug, there have been no fights or displays of aggression between Pepper and Morgan!

Pepper and Morgan are still in training, but Dorothy is dedicated to giving Pepper and Morgan the skills that will help them live calmer, safer, and hopefully, happier lives.

We look forward to Pepper’s and Morgan’s continued progress!

Congratulations to Angela, Bryant, and Reimer!

Reimer was very shy and timid in new places and around people. Reimer was unable to adapt to new and changing situations.  Even though Angela and Bryant tried to work hard on socializing Reimer to other dogs, he barked, growled, and lunged at them.

With a carefully planned program involving behavior modification and medication, Reimer’s confidence in investigating suspicious objects has increased. Additionally, his reactivity to dogs and people has decreased and Reimer has been able to join a structured day care environment.

Reimer is still a work in progress but he has very dedicated parents!

 Keep up the GREAT work!

Congratulations to Janet, Robert, and Popo!

As Popo reached maturity, he became uncomfortable greeting unfamiliar dogs. While he is generally dog friendly, he was nervous about the initial greeting, especially if it was prolonged or there were multiple dogs. He snapped at dogs that sniffed him too long, and Janet and Robert were worried that eventually he would start a fight.

Janet and Robert have worked diligently with Popo, and Popo has improved considerably. He has become more tolerant of unfamiliar dogs, and has had several months of successful greetings with other dogs.  Janet and Robert are more aware of Popo’s body language, and can therefore better manage his interactions with new dogs according to his comfort level.

 Awesome job with him!

Congratulations to Sarah, Grant and Frodo!

Frodo was hyper-excitable, especially when the doorbell rang. In stimulating environments, Frodo would run and jump on everyone and at times he would get so aroused that Sarah and Grant were afraid that he was becoming aggressive.

Sarah and Grant worked hard with Frodo on the Relaxation Protocol. Initially Frodo could only stay with every muscle in his body tense — ready to spring up. After considerable practice, Frodo learned how to truly relax on the training mat. Frodo has really settled down and is actually able to relax more stimulating environments. His doorbell problems are still a work in progress, but it is now much easier to get him to calm down.

Frodo is a great dog with dedicated owners! Keep up the hard work!

Congratulations to Craig, Stephanie, and all of their cats!

Craig and Stephanie love cats—so much that they have six (Nomad, Blanco, Esmerelda, Squeak, Llano, and Bob)! Craig and Stephanie sought our help because they needed a way to have their six cats peacefully interact with each other and their environment in a healthy way that does not require keeping the cats segregated…. They were playing “musical cats”–rotating them from room to room. Additionally some of the cats were urinating outside the litterbox.

Craig and Stephanie implemented an aggressive enrichment program for their cats. They installed “cat shelving,” hung a birdfeeder near a window, released crickets for the cats to hunt, and have regular play sessions with each cat. Because of their hard work and dedication, the cats are happier and coexist much better — and the inappropriate urination has stopped!

We want to be reincarnated into their kitty nirvana.

Congratulations to Karen and Bear!

Bear was extremely fearful and had a habit of eating things that were not good for him. He grabbed dish towels mostly, but other times were slippers, a ball of yarn, a strap from a cat carrier, a scarf, and once a telephone. After four surgeries, countless times giving him medicine to make him throw up, and thousands of dollars in vet bills, Karen was referred to us by a local dog trainer.

Karen is an extremely dedicated owner and has worked very hard with Bear. In the month since Karen saw Dr. Haug, Bear’s whole attitude has done a complete turnaround. He is much more relaxed and hasn’t demonstrated the need to eat odd things when he gets upset. Bear’s biggest breakthrough was last week when the UPS man delivered some packages. Bear just watched him and only barked in greeting instead of running in circles and whining and barking with his tail between his legs.

We are looking forward to Karen’s and Bear’s continued progress!

Congratulations to Lori and Chuy!

Because of Chuy, Lori and her family felt isolated as his severe aggressive response to visitors prevented them from having guests over.

Chuy’s behavior problems have progressed for several years, but Lori has made great strides in just a short time to make him more manageable. Since working with Dr. Haug, Chuy listens and responds to his commands of sit, down, stay, and come.  Currently, Lori is teaching Chuy to relax so we can begin introducing him to guests.

 Keep up the GREAT work!

 Congratulations to Pat and Chloe!

Chloe could not stand to be separated from her Mom! Chloe whined, urinated, and destroyed items when left alone.  She was also aggressive to the other dogs at feeding time.

Pat is very devoted and works hard with Chloe. With the help of some anxiety medication and lots of training, Chloe will calmly relax on her own bed instead of being on Pat’s lap at all times. She is also less aggressive and has not urinated in the house.  Chloe is a much happier dog now!

Way to go! Your hard work is already paying off!

 Congratulations to Alice and Storm!

Storm was scared of everything and reacted by barking, growling, and lunging at unfamiliar people and dogs.

Storm has made tremendously rapid progress especially for such a reactive German Shepherd. This is due to Alice’s dedicated hard work. Alice has changed how she feeds Storm and how Storm plays. Alice has done tremendous job instilling good obedience skills in Storm so that we can move forward with her other exercises. Alice is now working through a relaxation protocol which will help Storm stay relaxed in stressful environments.

 Awesome job with her!

Congratulations to Leslie and Charlie!

Charlie arrived at our office with a laundry list of behavioral issues.

Charlie has been working very hard to become a well mannered dog. Leslie and Charlie practice every day and, while he still has much to accomplish, they are well on their way. Now, he responds much better to commands. He really does enjoy learning!

 Keep up the GREAT work!
